Short version: your headache logs stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no ads and no tracking. Kip's AI chat only sends data after you say yes, and you can turn it off at any time.
Headache Pal is made by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). We built it to collect as little as possible. This policy explains exactly what the app stores, where, and what leaves your phone. If anything is unclear, write to info.stilak@gmail.com.
Which app this covers
- iPhone: “Migraine Tracker: Headache Pal” on the Apple App Store (iOS 17.6 or later), including its Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets.
- This website: headachepal.com.
There is no Android, iPad or web version of the app.
The short list
- No account. You never sign up or log in.
- On your iPhone. Your headache logs are stored on your device, not on our servers. We do not run a server that holds your health data.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. The app has no advertising or analytics tools and does not track you across apps or websites.
- AI chat is opt in. Kip’s chat only sends data after you agree in the app.
- Apple Health stays private. Health data is never sent to the AI and never used for ads or marketing.
- We never sell your data.
What the app stores on your iPhone
When you use Headache Pal, the app saves what you enter: headache date and time, pain level, where it hurts, how it feels, symptoms, triggers, medicines and whether they helped, notes, and your daily “No headache” check-ins. It also saves your settings, your own triggers and medicines, your answers from the first-run questions (such as your goals and known triggers), and a cached daily tip. Your chat with Kip is not saved: it is cleared when you start a new chat or close the app.
This data is stored in the app’s private storage on your iPhone. A shared App Group lets the Headache Pal widget on your Home Screen or Lock Screen read it, still on your device. The app does not use iCloud or any other cloud sync. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud or a computer, Apple’s normal device backup may include app data, under Apple’s own terms.
Chat with Kip (AI)
Kip’s chat uses an AI model to reply. Before Kip’s first reply (in the chat or the “Give me a tip for today” button), the app asks for your permission and explains what will be sent. If you say no, nothing is sent and the rest of the app works as usual.
If you say yes, then for each chat:
- What is sent: your messages, and a short summary of your recent logs so Kip’s replies make sense. Your full logs are sent only if you choose to attach them.
- What is not sent: your name, your email, your Apple Health data, or any account details. There is no account.
- Where it goes: the request goes through AIProxy, a secure relay that protects our API key and uses Apple’s DeviceCheck to block abuse, to OpenAI, which generates the reply. Both process the data only to provide this service. See OpenAI’s privacy policy and AIProxy.
- Turn it off: go to Settings > Share with AI in the app. You can turn it back on later.
Kip is not a doctor. Replies can be wrong and are not medical advice.
Apple Health
Connecting Apple Health is optional (Settings > Apple Health). If you turn it on:
- Headache Pal can write your headaches to the Health app.
- Headache Pal can read your sleep to show last night’s sleep and how sleep and headaches line up. This analysis happens on your iPhone only.
Health data is never sent to the AI, never shared with third parties for advertising, and never used for marketing. You can change Health access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security > Health > Migraine Tracker.
Purchases
Headache Pal Pro is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID (not your name or email), purchase and receipt information, and basic device information such as iOS version, app version and language. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, phone number or home address. There is no account.
- No photos, audio, video, contacts or location.
- No advertising IDs, and no data for advertising or profiling.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools.
The app asks for only two permissions, and both are optional: Apple Health (to save headaches and read sleep) and notifications (for the evening reminder). It never asks for the camera, microphone, photos, contacts or location.
Reminders and widgets
The evening check-in reminder is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone. Widgets read your data from the shared App Group on your device. Neither sends data to us.
Exports and the doctor report
When you export your data (PDF of your logs, doctor report PDF, CSV or JSON), the file is created on your iPhone. It leaves your device only if you share it yourself through the iOS share sheet, for example by email to your doctor. Once shared, the receiving app or person controls that copy.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use them only to reply. When you use Settings > Report a problem, the email the app opens already includes your iPhone model, iOS version and app version, so we can help faster; you can delete these lines before sending. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we delete support emails when they are no longer needed. Ask us to delete yours at any time.
This website
headachepal.com is a static website hosted by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no advertising or third-party analytics scripts. To see which pages help people find the app, we count page views, App Store button taps and how far articles are read, without cookies or any personal data: each visit only adds one to a daily total for that page, together with the country, the device type (iPhone, Android or other) and the kind of site the visit came from (for example a search engine). No IP address, identifier or browsing history is stored, so no visitor can be recognized or followed. Your browser keeps only that source type, and only until you close the tab. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect against attacks. Links to the App Store go to Apple, which has its own privacy policy.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your iPhone until you delete it. To delete your headaches, open Settings > Delete all headaches in the app. This also removes them from Apple Health if you connected it. To remove everything else (check-ins, settings and your own lists), delete the app. Because we do not hold your logs on a server, there is nothing for us to delete on our side. For data held by OpenAI, AIProxy or RevenueCat as described above, contact us and we will help with your request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or state laws in the US such as the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or move your personal data, and to object to or limit its use. Most of your data is only on your device, where you control it directly. For anything else, email info.stilak@gmail.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the law requires a legal basis: we process chat data with your consent (you can withdraw it in Settings > Share with AI), and purchase data to provide the subscription you bought.
International transfers
OpenAI, AIProxy and RevenueCat may process data in the United States or other countries. They use safeguards required by law for such transfers.
Children
Headache Pal is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has used Kip’s chat, contact us.
Medical disclaimer
Headache Pal is a diary and wellbeing tool. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Always talk to a doctor about your health.
Changes
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
